Pre-Surgical Evaluations

Dr. Knopes provides pre-surgical evaluations for patients and doctors planning a wide variety of surgical procedures. These have included bariatric bypass surgeries, liver and kidney transplants, knee replacement and spine surgeries. Evaluations can help physicians and surgeons rule-out complicating conditions like mood disorder, somatization or hypochondriasis. An accurate evaluation of mental health history, social support, pain coping skills, and life expectation have all been shown to increase the likelihood of positive surgical outcomes.

Dr. Knopes also provides pre-surgical counseling to people who are scheduled for invasive, dangerous or unpleasant medical procedures and can teach skills to help cope with aftereffects including mood impacts, pain, and changes in physical ability. In addition, individuals can be supported in maximizing their adherence to their post-op treatment plan.
